ACAP SUMMER RESIDENCY PROGRAM

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK ACCOUNTANTS, INC. IS LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. ACAP SUMMER RESIDENCY PROGRAM

WHAT IS ACAP?
ACAP stands for Accounting Careers Awareness Program. The primary objective of ACAP-Chicago is to increase the number of minority students pursuing careers in accounting and related business areas, by heightening the awareness of accounting, finance and business career opportunities among Chicago high school minority youth. Since a particularly small number of African Americans, Hispanics and Native American are currently pursuing those career paths, this program emphasizes recruiting students from these and other minority backgrounds.

SUMMER RESIDENCY PROGRAM

During the summer, a select group of students will have the opportunity to attend the ACAP Residency Program. These students will have an opportunity to explore careers in accounting, finance and business. This program will introduce high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to accounting, finance, economics and management through a carefully tailored curriculum. Participants will also attend sessions regarding the college application process, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and interviewing skills.

Chicago community business leaders will be available to share their experiences, provide tips for success and discuss educational opportunities. Participating students will witness accounting and finance first hand through tours of CPA firms and Chicago businesses.

ACAP will be held July 13 - 17, 2008 on the DePaul University – Lincoln Park Campus and is a fully supervised, all expense paid program for those students selected to participate. Students receive materials, room and board, transportation to the tours, and mentoring.

For more information on the program, how to apply and becoming a sponsor of a student, please see the attached information.
